Marleni Cuellar is the Chief Executive Officer of Greater Belize Media and Vice President of
the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union. Since joining the company in
2006, Marleni has been at the forefront of broadcast journalism in Belize, serving as news
anchor, morning show host, producer and special correspondent before ascending to CEO
in 2021.
With nearly two decades of media experience, she has led the company's transformation
from an analogue television station into a multi-platform digital media company. Under her
leadership, Greater Belize Media (formerly Channel 5) became the first legacy media
organization in Belize to establish a dedicated digital news team, introduced the nation's
first Spanish-language national newscast, and implemented the One Newsroom—an
integrated newsroom strategy where TV and digital news teams work together to create
content across all platforms with an emphasis on digital-first. The company's May 2025
rebrand reflects this evolution and its commitment to "Growing Together" with Belize.
Her work has earned multiple regional awards for excellence in journalism, including
recognition from the Caribbean Broadcasting Union for health journalism, investigative,
disaster risk coverage, and youth-focused reporting.
